Undergraduate Student at AUCA in 2024.
Career development requires time and patience for undergraduate and master students in the field of International Development. In an era of increasing uncertainty and high unemployment among early-career interntional students, securing meaningful employment has become especially difficult. We were often told that various International Organizations would be a perfect fit after the graduation but for that you need to prepare as early as you can. As a result, I have been actively searching for opportunities and compiling web resources that highlight research-related positions, postdoctoral roles, and fellowships. More recently, I began to recognize the growing number of research and development opportunities emerging across the broader Eurasian region, particularly those supported by large-scale international collaborations and research centers.
In the summer of 2025, I ended up visiting my BA school AUCA in Bishkek. Completely by chance, I ran into the history teacher, who was deep in conversation with another AUCA graduate who recently became an Ivy League alum. We laughed and agreed that a North American education is truly worth it. In that sense, programs like FLEX and institutions like AUCA really do produce scholars.
Looking back I have a different perspectives on the effectiveness of this education policy, but the experience of US foreign exchange program offers different career pathways for each exchange students differently. Right after high school in Tajikistan, I ended up in hot and rainly State Georgia through exchange program FLEX. This was a stepping stone in education, and professional career in science.
